Photographing engagement or couples sessions is great fun. In Barna woods in Co Galway, we had a lot of fun on this engagement session.
It’s September and the weather is starting to cool down a bit, so we wanted to try and do the shoot before it got too cold and wet. The shoot was arranged for the week before hand but the weather didn’t play nice and it rained for a few days so we put it off until the next week.
The day came for the shoot, and the weather was nice. We headed for Barna Woods about 10 or 15 minutes west of Galway City. We parked up and started to walk into the woods. It didn’t take us long to find a nice spot to start taking photos. Actually, right inside the gate was just perfect, with little walkways, old stone bridges going over little streams, and plenty of other places to have fun in front of the camera.
Just like most couples, they were a bit nervous and not sure what to do. What I try and do is make these shoots fun, have a laugh and just enjoy it. I try not to be too serious when getting my couples to pose, I want them to look as natural as possible, and have fun doing it.
It didn’t take long for my couple to start loosing up and enjoying the experience, so much so, it got to a point where they were starting to pick out spots for photos and posing on their own. Their smiles went from cheesy grins (you know the type of smile, the type that flatters nobody lol) to their natural smiles which makes for a much better photos.
These guys were amazing and so much fun on our engagement shoot in Galway, and I can’t wait to photograph where wedding in October.
